1324 9th Avenue, Greeley, CO 80631
The Meeker Home Museum is a 2-story adobe structure built in 1870 to house Nathan Meeker, founder of the Union Colony, his wife, and his three daughters. The house is decorated to faithfully reproduce 1870s-era artifacts, furniture and textiles. The house was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.
Meeker was instrumental in developing rules to solve the irrigation problems of the new community, which were the beginnings of water law in the West. He also founded and was editor of the Greeley Tribune. Mr. Meeker was acting agent at the White River Indian Agency where he met his untimely death during the Meeker Massacre 1879.
